Our mission is to support the health of people and planet by partnering with farms, companies, and distributors that join us in considering the impact of how we grow, package, and distribute real food! We focus on Certified Organic products to support a food system that keeps toxic chemicals out of people's bodies as well as our environment. By increasing demand, our independent market ultimately contributes to driving change in food production. We strive to welcome all people into a clean, fun, peaceful store where you can find vibrant organic food and connect with neighbors and friends. We seek companies who produce food with the same ethics to support people and planet. We strive to make fresh, organic food as affordable as possible; eating nutrient rich, non-toxic food should be a fundamental right, not a privilege. We hope to be a source of nourishment for mind, body, and spirit through the foods we sell and the kindness we offer everyone who walks through our doors.
We believe supporting sustainable food systems helps grow more equitable, healthy communities by offering better wages to everyone who is part of the supply chain, as well as decrease toxicity in farming communities. We choose not to support big agriculture that pollutes communities (often communities of color) with toxic waste, as well as creating nutrient deficient ‘food’ sold at a fraction of the price as real food. As a family business, we strive to examine our white privilege and confront how we perpetuate a cycle of inequality. Considering our privilege impacts the business choices we make from hiring staff, to creating policies, to choosing our partnerships with farms, banks, distributors, the list goes on and on. We believe in paying farmers and distributors fair prices, even if it means our prices are less competitive with the chain stores in our town. This reflects the true cost of food. We commit ourselves to sourcing produce from farms with sustainable systems and fair labor practices. We commit ourselves to supporting companies that offer fair compensation and equal benefits for all their employees. We strive to offer a living wage to our staff and expand our community impact by fairly compensating the local vendors in our community.
We believe that supporting Independent Organic Family Farmers will feed our community the healthiest food possible and has the potential to heal the earth in the process. We choose to source from smaller scale organic and regenerative farms as close to home as possible to limit the miles traveled to reach your table. Regenerative farming is a practice we have witnessed repair the earth's ecosystems and bring about abundant food supplies. We commit ourselves to supporting the farmers who invest in these practices (see examples on our Farms and Vendors page).
